Hurlstone Agricultural High School does not provide Open Days or tours of our facilities to prospective students and their families, or the general public.

Enrolment

Hurlstone Agricultural High School is a fully selective high school. We provide highly gifted students with the best educational opportunities to achieve academically, to develop socially and to demonstrate the skills that are required to succeed in later life. We utilise our farm for agricultural education to encourage lifelong learning. Selective high schools are unzoned so parents can apply regardless of where they live.

Year 7 Applications for Hurlstone Agricultural High School

Entry into Year 7 2025

Applications for Year 7 entry into a selective high school are completed and submitted online.

The Selective High School Placement Test was held on Thursday, 9 May 2024.

Information regarding entry into Year 7 starting in 2025 can be found here.

Please note the Selective Education Unit of the Department of Education conducts an entrance test in early May of Year 6 for entry into Year 7 the following year. Students undergo multiple-choice testing in reading, mathematics, and general ability. They also complete a 20-minute writing task.

Application for entry into Year 7 is to be made in November when the student is in Year 5 and the test will be administered in May when the student is in Year 6. For example, students wishing to enter Year 7 2026 must have applied by November 2024.

Entry into Years 8 to 11, 2025

Applications for Years 8 to 11 entry to Hurlstone Agricultural High School in 2025 open on Friday, 21 June 2024 and the closing date is Friday, 26 July 2024. Applications must be received at Hurlstone Agricultural High School by 3:00pm on Friday, 26 July 2024.

We do not accept enrolments into the Year 7 or 12 academic year.

 

Application Process – Years 8 to 11

Detailed information regarding the application process for Years 8 to 11 entry, including eligibility criteria, is listed below:

1.    Download the Application Form (PDF) available from Friday, 21 June 2024.

 

2.      Complete the form, listing up to three schools you are applying for in preferential order. A separate application needs to be made for each of the schools on your application (e.g. check each school’s website for their application details).

 

3.    Include:

  • Photocopies of the two most recent school academic reports (Semester 2, 2023 and Semester 1, 2024)
  • The most recent NAPLAN results i.e. 2023/2024 (depending on Year Group)
  • Photocopies of evidence of co-curricular activities over the past two calendar years (maximum of 10 pages)
  • Photocopies of competition certificates (e.g., ICAS, etc., over the past two years)

No original documents will be accepted. Please provide copies in your application.

 

4.      Applications may be submitted at each school listed on your application, along with payment (see additional information below). Submit your completed application with relevant documentation for Hurlstone Agricultural High School as follows:

  • Submit in person to the Hurlstone Agricultural High School reception by 3.00pm Friday, 26 July 2024. Please note, the school will not be able to accept in-person applications on Monday, 22 July 2024.
  • Mail Application (including bank cheque or money order made out to Hurlstone Agricultural High School with your child’s name as the Reference) to Hurlstone Agricultural High School, Roy Watts Road, Glenfield NSW 2167. All applications mailed on Friday, 26 July 2024 must be post marked with the date 26 July 2024 by the Post Office for applications to be accepted.
  • Note: Express Post envelope is required.

No late applications, and no supporting documentation will be accepted after the closing date of Friday 26 July 2024.

We will not accept faxed or emailed applications.

 

5.      All applicants to Hurlstone Agricultural High School will receive an “Acknowledgement of Payment Letter” on successful submission of application.

 

6.      Students will complete the Higher Ability Selection Test (HAST) on Saturday 3 August 2024 at the school that is their first preference on the application. (See below – The HAST)

Selection is based on the following criteria:

  • Performance in the ACER Higher Ability Selection Test (HAST), and;
  • An assessment by the Enrolment Committee of your child’s application, including support documentation outlined in 3.

After assessment by the Enrolment Committee, an interview at the school may be offered to your child. Please be aware an invitation for interview does not constitute an offer of placement.

Please be advised that, currently, there are no positions available at Hurlstone Agricultural High School.  Further positions may become available in Years 8 to 11.  A Reserve list will be formed for the use of filling any vacancies in Years 8 to 11. The Reserve list will remain active until the end of Term 1, 2025.

The Enrolment Committee will also establish a short Reserve list in order of priority, based on the outcome of its selection process. Outcome advice will be sent to applicants by email when the Enrolment Committee has concluded its determinations.

Boarder Applications

All Boarder applications will be assessed by the Principal to ensure that they meet the boarding criteria before the application is accepted. Please ensure you indicate that you are applying for Boarder Entry when you submit your application package.

These listed schools are utilising the Higher Ability Selection Test (HAST), prepared by the Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER). The HAST Student Information Bulletin below provides you with further details about the test.

HAST Student Information Bulletin - Secondary

If your first preference is Hurlstone Agricultural High School, you will need to apply and pay $130 which is payable on submission of application. This fee covers all examination costs. Your child will then sit the test at Hurlstone Agricultural High School on Saturday, 3 August 2024. The payment must be made before the closing application date of Friday, 26 July 2024.

If Hurlstone Agricultural High School is your second or third preference, you must still submit a completed application package to us so we can register your preference and pay $50, which is payable on submission of application. You cannot sit the HAST test at Hurlstone Agricultural High School if we are not your first preference.

If your first preference is not Hurlstone Agricultural High School, you must apply, pay for, and sit the test at the school you nominate on your application form as your first preference. If you wish to apply for selective schools not on the above list, please make direct contact with the individual school. You may apply for entry to a maximum of three selective high schools in total.

 

Payment Examples

The amount of money that is paid to apply depends on the order preference of the schools on your application. You will sit the test at Hurlstone Agricultural High School if it is your first preference. Payment is made using EFTPOS at the time of application submission.  No on-line payments will be accepted. No refunds will be issued after Friday, 26 July 2024.

The Higher Ability Selection Test (HAST)

The HAST will be conducted on Saturday, 3 August 2024. For administrative purposes, all candidates sitting the test at Hurlstone Agricultural High School must be present at school by 9:00am. The test will commence at 9:30am at Hurlstone Agricultural High School and is expected to conclude no earlier than 12:30pm.

Student photo identification will be required on the day of the test. A current passport or a student (school) photograph ID card are acceptable.
