Travel by road - parents and carers
Access to the school by road is from Glenfield Road. Taking the exit near the Hurlstone ‘Welcome Sign’ at the roundabout near the railway overpass. The School is situated on Roy Watts Road. The different sections of the school are signposted.
There is a drop-off and pick-up area out the front of the main administration building.
Short term parking is restricted to the north side verge along Roy Watts Road between the main gate and the farm.
Parents and carers are encouraged to consider dropping off and picking up their child along Station Road or Railway Parade, from where their child can safely walk into the school grounds using the Station Pedestrian Gate,
Travel by road - student drivers
Senior students may submit a completed application form to their respective Deputy Principal that is signed by a parent/guardian and the student. The “Permission to Drive to School” form can be collected from the front administration office.
If passengers are permitted they are to be listed on the application form. The passenger’s parents are also required to sign the form.
The completed application forms are to be handed into their respective Deputy Principal, along with a copy of:
- Students driver’s license
- Registration papers
- Vehicle insurance
The application will be reviewed by the deputy principal. If approved, a “Student Parking Pass” will be issued to the student seeking permission. The pass is to be displayed on the dashboard of the car each day the vehicle is parked at the school.
Student’s vehicles are to be parked down along Roy Watts Road, east of the staff car park.
Driver's Code of Behaviour
The school policy requires students to:
- Act in a responsible manner at all times when using the vehicle
- Keep the vehicle off the school grounds - only park in designated areas
- Only carry passengers as nominated by their parents
- Only use the car to come to and from school at the start and end of the school day
- Display the Student Parking Authority Pass at all times

Getting to and from school safely
As a parent or carer, it’s your responsibility to get your child to and from school safely. Student safety is our priority.
Keep our school community safe by:
Driving and parking safely
The start and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools.
Please:
- ensure you park legally and safely in school zones
- slow down to 40 km/h in the school zone and be aware of school crossings
- do not make U-turns or 3-point turns outside the school.
Following drop-off and pick-up zone procedures
Drop-off and Pick-up, or kiss-and-drop zones, provide a designated area on the school side of the road for dropping off and collecting your children by car.
Please:
- drop your child off and pick them up on the school side of the road
- never call out to your child from across the road - it is very dangerous
- always get your child in and out of the car on the footpath side (safety door)
- stay within 3 metres of your car
- park for 2 minutes at the most.

Parking a short distance from the school and walking the rest of the way - offers a range of benefits for students, families, and the broader community:
Please:
- park safely and legally - further away from the school to reduce traffic around our school
- walk the rest of the way together – it’s safer and sets a good example
- talk about staying safe and alert near roads.
Walking to school safely
Walking to and from school is a great way for children to stay healthy and active, it can also reduce the traffic around our school.
Key messages:
- Stop, Look, Listen, Think, every time you cross the road
- always use the pedestrian crossings, if possible
- use the safest place to cross the road.
Riding to school safely
Riding to school is a great way to start the day.
Key messages:
- always wear a helmet when riding
- look out for cars in driveways
- you can ride together on footpaths, until your child is 16 years old, unless signposted otherwise
- regularly check to ensure your child has a well-maintained bike or scooter.
Safely travelling by bus
Bus travel is a great way for students to travel to and from school safely.
Remember to:
- always tap on and off with a bus pass or opal card
- wait until the bus has gone, then choose a safe place to cross the road.
Safely travelling by train/tram/light rail
Traveling by train/ tram/light rail can be a great way for students to get to and from school safely, when they are close by.
Remember to:
- always tap on and off with an opal card
- always stand behind the yellow line on the platform until the train has come to a complete stop
- mind the gap.
