Our policies and reports

Our policies and reports provide transparency and clarity for students, families, and the wider Hurlstone community. The School Excellence Plan and Annual Report outline our priorities, achievements, and ongoing improvement, while key policies guide expectations around learning, behaviour, boarding, attendance, and wellbeing. Together, they show how we maintain the high standards of NSW’s only fully selective agricultural boarding school.

Annual school report

Each year, Hurlstone publishes an Annual School Report to share our progress and achievements. The report provides families with a clear picture of how we are performing, how we support every student’s success, and our ongoing commitment to openness, accountability, and continuous improvement.

The report includes:

• what we’re doing well and where we’re improving
• student achievement and academic progress
• our school vision and goals
• key highlights and milestones
• challenges we’ve faced and how we’re addressing them.

School Excellence Plan

Our School Excellence Plan (SEP) sets out Hurlstone’s priorities in learning, teaching, and leadership. It identifies the areas we are focused on improving and the strategies we will use to get there. Developed in partnership with our community, the plan reflects our shared commitment to high expectations, continual growth, and excellence across school, farm, and boarding life.

School Behaviour Support and Management Plan

Hurlstone has a School Behaviour Support and Management Plan (SBSMP) that underpins a safe, respectful, and supportive environment across school, farm, and boarding life. The plan sets clear expectations for student behaviour, including how we prevent and respond to bullying and cyberbullying. Developed with input from our community and reviewed each year, it reflects our shared commitment to high standards and student wellbeing.

Students’ use of Mobile Phones in Schools Management Plan

Hurlstone Agricultural High School supports the restrictions of mobile phones in accordance with the NSW Department of Education: Students’ Use of Mobile Phones in Schools policy. Mobile phone use in schools can impact student learning and wellbeing. Restricting mobile phone use at school aims to increase focus in classrooms, remove distractions and promote positive social interaction, while reducing the potential for online bullying. Hurlstone Agricultural High School has strong teaching and learning practices to support students in the classroom using various forms of appropriate technology, which maximises the benefits and minimises the risks of digital environments and prepare students for life beyond school. We foster a safe learning environment which supports and enhances each child’s social and emotional health through our wellbeing and learning support teams.

Hurlstone Agricultural High School has elected to use the following approach. All mobile phones will be ‘off and away’ for the full school day, including recess and lunch, excursions, sport, prep sessions and mealtimes. This will mean that students will have a responsibility to turn off their phone and store it safely for the course of the school day. This is an approved NSW Department of Education option and will limit unnecessary distractions and complement our ongoing approach to ensure every student maximises their learning and social growth in a safe and supportive environment.
