Our policies and reports

Our policies and reports provide transparency and clarity for students, families, and the wider Hurlstone community. The School Excellence Plan and Annual Report outline our priorities, achievements, and ongoing improvement, while key policies guide expectations around learning, behaviour, boarding, attendance, and wellbeing. Together, they show how we maintain the high standards of NSW’s only fully selective agricultural boarding school.

Annual school report

Each year, Hurlstone publishes an Annual School Report to share our progress and achievements. The report provides families with a clear picture of how we are performing, how we support every student’s success, and our ongoing commitment to openness, accountability, and continuous improvement.

The report includes:

School Excellence Plan

Our School Excellence Plan (SEP) sets out Hurlstone’s priorities in learning, teaching, and leadership. It identifies the areas we are focused on improving and the strategies we will use to get there. Developed in partnership with our community, the plan reflects our shared commitment to high expectations, continual growth, and excellence across school, farm, and boarding life.

School Behaviour Support and Management Plan

Hurlstone has a School Behaviour Support and Management Plan (SBSMP) that underpins a safe, respectful, and supportive environment across school, farm, and boarding life. The plan sets clear expectations for student behaviour, including how we prevent and respond to bullying and cyberbullying. Developed with input from our community and reviewed each year, it reflects our shared commitment to high standards and student wellbeing.

Our School Behaviour Support and Management Plan works alongside the NSW Department of Education's Behaviour Code for Students to establish a positive, safe, and supportive learning environment for all students.

The Behaviour Code for Students outlines the standards of behaviour expected of every student in NSW public schools. Our School Behaviour Support and Management Plan brings these expectations to life within our school context by outlining how positive behaviour is taught, encouraged, recognised, and supported, as well as the processes used to address inappropriate behaviour when it occurs.

Through clear expectations, consistent practices, and strong relationships, we support students to make positive choices, take responsibility for their actions, and contribute to a culture of respect, responsibility, and excellence. Our focus is on fostering student wellbeing, engagement, and success by creating an environment where every student feels safe, valued, and able to learn.

Together, the Behaviour Code for Students and our School Behaviour Support and Management Plan provide the foundation for a school culture where all students can connect, succeed, thrive, and learn.

Students’ use of Mobile Phones in Schools Management Plan

Hurlstone Agricultural High School supports the restrictions of mobile phones in accordance with the NSW Department of Education: Students’ Use of Mobile Phones in Schools policy. Mobile phone use in schools can impact student learning and wellbeing. Restricting mobile phone use at school aims to increase focus in classrooms, remove distractions and promote positive social interaction, while reducing the potential for online bullying. Hurlstone Agricultural High School has strong teaching and learning practices to support students in the classroom using various forms of appropriate technology, which maximises the benefits and minimises the risks of digital environments and prepare students for life beyond school. We foster a safe learning environment which supports and enhances each child’s social and emotional health through our wellbeing and learning support teams.

Hurlstone Agricultural High School has elected to use the following approach. All mobile phones will be ‘off and away’ for the full school day, including recess and lunch, excursions, sport, prep sessions and mealtimes. This will mean that students will have a responsibility to turn off their phone and store it safely for the course of the school day. This is an approved NSW Department of Education option and will limit unnecessary distractions and complement our ongoing approach to ensure every student maximises their learning and social growth in a safe and supportive environment.

Our school's Mobile Phones in Schools Management Plan works in partnership with the NSW Department of Education's Behaviour Code for Students to support a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.

The Behaviour Code for Students sets clear expectations for how students engage in learning, interact with others, and contribute positively to school life. The Mobile Phones in Schools Management Plan supports these expectations by reducing distractions, promoting positive social interactions, protecting student wellbeing, and ensuring students remain focused on their learning.

Students are expected to comply with the school's mobile phone procedures and use technology responsibly. By following these expectations, students demonstrate respect for their learning, consideration for others, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive school environment. Together, the Behaviour Code for Students and the Mobile Phones in Schools Management Plan help create the conditions for all students to connect, succeed, thrive, and learn.
